Political Leaders Address Young Voters at College of Mount Saint Vincent
9/18/2008
On Friday, September 19, members of the Class of 2012 will meet with political leaders from New York State through their 101 class, a semester long course specifically designed to introduce freshman to college life. Special guest speakers will include Senator Jeff Klein, Assemblyman Mike Spano and Senator Vincent Leibell. They will discuss the importance of voting in the upcoming presidential election and the importance for students to exercise their right to vote.
In addition to special guest speakers, the College is promoting several voter registration projects to entice students. One of them is the new non-partisan Campus Voter Registration Project, ‘The Mount Rocks the Vote’ which connects students on Facebook. The aim is to engage students in discussion on the issues and the candidates’ positions. There they can download voter registration documents and absentee ballots. Students often feel disenfranchised by the voting system and confused by its rules. The site allows students to understand that they have a voice and how to use it.
The lectures will take place in the Administration Building, room 302.
