Mount Trustee Discusses Fake Free Tuition in The Journal News

2/20/2017

Riverdale, N.Y. – Stefano Acunto, member of the University of Mount Saint Vincent Board of Trustees, discusses the “free” tuition proposed by New York State’s governor in his prospective executive budget, in a February 20, 2017 article published in The Journal News, “Fake “Free Tuition” Promise Squeezes Private Colleges: View.”

The article explores the executive budget, which proposes “free” tuition for New Yorkers with an annual income of up to $125,000, attending either the State University of New York or the City University of New York. Additionally, the executive budget proposes that the Tuition Assistance Program and Bundy Aid affecting many New Yorkers, should be denied to students attending schools that increase tuition beyond a set index. Mr. Acunto points out that “for private colleges and universities and for the thousands of students who attend them, these two measures spell unfairness.”
