10/18/2006

Susan Apold, NP, PhD has been awarded The Nancy J. Macintyre, PhD, FNP Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award at the Annual Convention of The Nurse Practitioner Association New York State (The NPA). This prestigious award is presented annually to a nurse practitioner in New York State who exemplifies the highest standards of the nurse practitioner profession based on rigorous criteria including clinical excellence, volunteer service, research, advancement of the profession and leadership.

“Susan Apold has made significant contributions to the profession through her tireless efforts on behalf of nurse practitioners on both a state and national level,” said Seth Gordon, President/CEO of The NPA. “She has demonstrated the highest level of commitment to her patients in over 20 years of practice, and she is a dedicated educator and mentor for student nurse practitioners.  Susan sets a high standard of excellence and commitment for all nurse practitioners and is truly deserving of this honor.”

Dr. Apold is Vice-President for Academic Affairs/Dean of Faculty at The University of Mount Saint Vincent.  She has been an advanced practice nurse for over 20 years and maintains a private practice along with her husband, Dr. John Giampietro in New Rochelle, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Holy Family University and her Master of Science in Nursing at The University of Pennsylvania as an Adult-Health Clinical Nurse Specialist.  In 1992, she received a Doctor of Philosophy at Adelphi University, and her Certificate of Advanced Practice, Adult Nurse Practitioner at The University of Mount Saint Vincent in 1997. She is currently on the Board of Directors for The NPA and the Chair and The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP).

“We are all immensely proud of Dr. Apold and know well how much she has done to merit this recognition,” said Charles L. Flynn, Jr., President of the College. “She brings the same strengths to all her work– in private practice, the classroom, graduate studies, national and regional professional associations of nursing, and her role at Mount Saint Vincent. Dr. Apold invariably brings professionalism, insight, diligence, compassion, decisiveness, and care.”

The NPA is the premier organization in New York State dedicated to promoting the highest standards of health care delivery through the empowerment of nurse practitioners and the profession.  The Nancy J. Macintyre Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award is the highest honor awarded by The NPA each year.
