The College of Mount Saint Vincent Doubles the Number of Recipients of the Corazon Aquino Scholarship
10/5/2010
In honor of the recent visit of his Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines, the University of Mount Saint Vincent is pleased to announce that it is doubling the number of recipients receiving the Corazon Aquino Scholarship.
Four students, starting the 2011 Academic Year, will receive a four-year, full-tuition scholarship offered to the highest ranking incoming high school students of Filipino descent. The scholarship is renewed each year, provided that the recipient maintains a 3.2 academic index. Among the College’s diverse student population, approximately 9% of undergraduate students are Filipino-American. This is among the highest percentages in the United States.
The Corazon Aquino Scholarship was established by the College in 1986 in honor of the then President of the Republic of the Philippines and alumna Corazon Aquino during her visit to the Mount. During this visit, which took place within months of being elected President, she was also conferred the Elizabeth Seton Medal, the College’s highest honor.
Interested students must apply to the College by February 1. Recipients will be chosen in early March.
