Mount Hosts ANIMA Leadership Academy, “Leading for the Common Good”

4/3/2018

Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever, delivers keynote address

Riverdale, N.Y. – The ANIMA Executive Leadership Academy will hold “Leading for the Common Good,” a one-day immersive seminar at the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Founded through a partnership between Mount Saint Vincent, Soulful Impact, and ONE HUNDRED, the conference explores the ANIMA model of leadership, which symbolizes a truly soulful approach to the enormous privileges and responsibilities embedded in leadership. In a global, increasingly interconnected society, the leaders who create the greatest impact will be those who serve, mentor, and inspire others. The University of Mount Saint Vincent is honored to welcome such leaders as part of this valuable model.

This year’s keynote speaker is Paul Polman, the CEO of Unilever. Through his work toward the common good, sustainability, and business leadership, Mr. Polman actively seeks cooperation with other companies to implement long-term business strategies and drive systemic change. He is chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, and sits on the Board of the United Nations Global Compact and the Consumer Goods Forum, where he co-chairs the Sustainability Committee. Under his leadership, Unilever has an ambitious vision to increase their positive social impact through the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. Mr. Polman has played a significant role in developing the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and works to promote action toward their delivery. His commitment to the SDGs also inspired him and others to establish the Business and Sustainable Development Commission and publish a flagship report, Better Business, Better World, which serves as a call to action for business leaders to align with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Throughout the day, there will be a series of panel discussions and workshops. The seminar will begin with a presentation on the ANIMA Model of Leadership, led by Michael Hoffman, Chairman of Changing Our World and Deirdre Gaughan, CEO of Soulful Impact and Director for Graduate Programs at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. These speakers will be introduced by Patrick W. McGrory, Chairperson of The Raskob Foundation.

The following event, Next Generation Philanthropy and the SDGs, includes panelists Michelle Bayat of the Bayat Foundation; Benjamin Bernstein of Changing Our World; Patrick Gage of the NEXUS Working Group on Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery; and Jinyue Ma, an MBA student at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. These panelists will be introduced by Michael Iovino, Director of Ethiopian Philanthropy for Soulful Impact.

There will also be panelists discussing Transformational Leadership for the Common Good, including Kim Polman, Founder of Reboot the Future and John O’Brien, Managing Partner of ONE HUNDRED, introduced by Serge Dumont, Vice Chairman of Omnicom Group.

After the panel discussions, there will be a presentation on the University of Mount Saint Vincent by Sarah Stevenson and Nina Aversano, as well as two workshops: the Wellness Meditation Practice, led by Dr. Veronica Ruelas and Leveraging the Power of Technology to Transform Lives, presented by Ryan Cummins, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Omaze. The day will conclude with a certificate ceremony and networking reception.

Join the University of Mount Saint Vincent on April 11 as we welcome industry leaders and academic professionals in a high-level exploration of how business can commit to sustainable growth and align with the next generation of philanthropic leaders to change the world through the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals.
