Special Considerations for Admission
In keeping with the University of Mount Saint Vincent and Master of Science Physician Assistant Program mission statements, the program feels it is our duty to impart to our accepted students a deep knowledge of their chosen discipline, while keeping a connection to the communities from which they come.
There is no guaranteed admittance into the program and an interview is required before any applicant is offered acceptance.
The program’s admission goal is to strive to develop a diverse, inclusive cohort of students, comprised of traditional and non-traditional students, University of Mount Saint Vincent and non-University of Mount Saint Vincent students and graduates, veterans, and non-veterans, as well older individuals looking toward a second career. Individuals will not be discriminated on the basis of sex, age, gender identity, race, national or ethnic origin, religion, and socioeconomic status.
The minimum required experiential hours are 200. Experiential experience is evaluated using a weighted application review rubric that considers both the total number of hours completed and the level of clinical responsibility associated with the experience. Applicants with more than 2,000 experiential hours receive additional points, and higher-level clinical experience, such as paramedic experience, is weighted more heavily than EMT experience. The rubric also awards additional points to applicants residing in the Bronx and to applicants who have earned an advanced degree, including a master’s or doctoral degree.
