Mount Access Program (MAP)

The Mount Access Program (MAP) supports students as they transition to college and develop the skills, confidence, and connections needed to succeed at the University of Mount Saint Vincent.

Through personalized guidance, academic support, and opportunities for personal growth, MAP helps students navigate college expectations, strengthen their academic skills, and build a strong foundation for long-term success.

MAP Eligibility

Students admitted to the Mount Access Program are chosen not only for what they may expect to gain from their time at the Mount, but also for what they can contribute to our community.

Preferred Admission Criteria:

  • Academic Performance: A recalculated high school average generally between 75 and 80.
  • Residency: Preference is given to students who reside outside a reasonable commuting distance from campus.

MAP Student Support

  • Dedicated MAP Advisor: Each MAP student receives personalized support from a dedicated MAP Student Success Advisor who provides holistic guidance throughout the transition to college. The Student Success Advisor helps students navigate University resources, set goals, address challenges, understand program requirements, register for courses, and connect with the support they need to succeed academically and personally.
  • Foundational Classes by Cohort: MAP students take designated foundational courses together as a cohort, creating opportunities to build connections with peers, develop a sense of community, and support one another throughout their college experience.
  • Academic Success Strategies: Students participate in small-group sessions focused on effective study habits, time management, organization, note-taking, and other essential college success skills.
  • Small Group Connections: Students participate in small groups organized around their academic majors and special interests, providing opportunities to build relationships with peers, share experiences, and develop a sense of community.
  • Tutoring Support: Students are connected with tutoring opportunities, including small group and individual sessions, to strengthen their understanding of course material and build confidence as independent learners.
  • College Transition and Campus Engagement: Students receive guidance on navigating college expectations, accessing campus resources, building connections, and getting involved in campus life.
  • Financial Wellness: Students explore financial wellness topics, including budgeting, managing expenses, and accessing resources that support their financial well-being.
  • Ongoing Support and Progress Monitoring: The MAP Student Success Advisor works proactively with students to celebrate progress, identify challenges early, and connect them with additional resources when needed.

Note: Students seeking reasonable accommodations and support services on the basis of a diagnosed permanent or temporary disability are required to submit documentation to verify eligibility. Contact the SASS Center for more information by emailing oas@umsv.edu.
