Professor Susan Tighe has been a registered nurse for over 40 years, practicing throughout Westchester County. She practiced at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY for 30 years. Her clinical experience includes emergency nursing, neonatal intensive care, adult intensive care, cardiac catheterization lab, transfer coordination, and nursing management. Professor Tighe completed her BSN and MSN in nursing education from Mercy College.

Prior to joining the faculty of University of Mount Saint Vincent, she held the position of Assistant Professor of Nursing at Concordia College for 7 years as a full-time didactic and clinical educator. Her area of expertise is Adult Medical Surgical Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing, and Nursing Leadership. She is currently practicing as a nursing administrator at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, New York, where she is a nursing supervisor.

She has been an active member in Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society for Nursing since 2013, PSI NU Chapter of Sigma since 2016, and on the National League of Nursing New York Chapter Research and Planning Committee since 2016. Professor Tighe was the recipient of the highly esteemed Daisy Award for Nursing Faculty in 2016 for contributions made to the future of nursing and received the Alpha Eta National Honor Society Award from Mercy College.

She has participated in a Career Awareness Day at Leadership Prep Brownsville Academy, inspiring students to consider nursing as a career. Her volunteer work has extended to a medical mission in Haiti with Hands Up for Haiti, a medical humanitarian organization making a sustainable and positive impact on the health of the people in Northern Haiti. On this mission she administered medical care to the underserved and taught sexual assault and domestic violence awareness, along with teaching newborn resuscitation skills using a program, Helping Babies Breathe. She has also volunteered at Jacobi Medical Center Emergency Department to supplement the nursing staff and help decompress the overcrowded Emergency Department.
