TRIO Student Support Services Grant Aid
The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program may provide eligible students with a one-time monetary award to assist with college expenses.
Who is Eligible?
Students must participate in the TRIO Student Support Services program and meet the applicable eligibility requirements to be considered for grant aid. Receiving TRIO services does not automatically guarantee a monetary award.
When is the Award Provided?
The TRIO Grant is available to eligible first-year and second-year students. Eligibility and award amounts are determined in coordination with the TRIO Director, Office of Financial Aid, and Student Accounts.
Students must demonstrate academic success, including maintaining a strong GPA, to be considered. The grant is designed to provide additional financial assistance to students who are committed to completing their degree and who are able to meet their current educational expenses.
The grant is not intended to fill a current funding gap. Instead, it is intended to help students prepare for future financial challenges that could otherwise threaten their ability to persist and graduate. Awards are granted in the Spring Semester; recipients should have already cleared their accounts and be in a position to complete the current academic year. Students are encouraged to reserve the funds for unforeseen expenses that may arise in subsequent semesters.
Is the Award Renewable?
No. The TRIO monetary award is not an automatically renewable award.
Students should be aware of the following:
- The award is associated with the spring semester of the first year or second year.
- The award is not automatically renewed in subsequent semesters or academic years.
- Students should not include this award in their financial planning for future academic years.
- Continued participation in TRIO does not mean students will receive additional monetary awards.
How Does TRIO Grant Aid Affect My Financial Aid?
The TRIO monetary award is separate from the academic support and other services offered through the program. The Office of Financial Aid and the TRIO Director coordinate the distribution of funds to selected recipients.
Important: Students should plan to cover their student account balance by the established payment deadline without relying on the TRIO award to pay their bill. The award is disbursed after the payment deadline and is credited to the student’s account later in the spring semester. Students should plan accordingly and make arrangements to meet their financial obligations while waiting for the award.
