Travel for Clinical Rotations
The purpose of this policy is to define expectations related to student travel for all program-required educational activities, including SCPEs, ensuring transparency and compliance with accreditation standards. The UMSV PA Program is responsible for securing and assigning all clinical rotation sites. Students are not required to provide or solicit clinical sites or preceptors.
Participation in SCPEs requires travel. Students must be prepared to travel based on educational need, not personal convenience.
Students can expect that approximately five (5) of eight (8) required clinical rotations will occur within the Bronx, Yonkers, and other boroughs of New York City. These locations are generally accessible via public transportation and/or taxi services. The remaining rotations may occur outside of New York City and Yonkers, where public transportation may be limited and private vehicle transportation may be required.
While efforts are made to schedule students geographically when possible, all students are required to travel outside the five boroughs/Yonkers area and accept variability in commute time and distance.
The program does not guarantee placement within a specific geographic location or commute distance.
Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for arranging reliable transportation, arriving on time, maintaining flexibility, and covering all travel-related expenses.
Transportation Requirements
Students must maintain reliable transportation throughout the program. Private vehicle access may be required for certain rotations.
Housing and Financial Responsibility
Students are responsible for securing and funding housing if required.

 Travel Time and Attendance
Travel time is not included in clinical hours. Students must ensure punctuality.
