Fieldwork Training
The Counseling Center at the University of Mount Saint Vincent is committed to providing students with the best clinical support services possible. We offer training experience to graduate students in social work and mental health counseling who can work closely with our students. We have provided fieldwork opportunities to students from Columbia University, New York University, Fordham University, Hunter College, and Iona College.
Field Training Internship Program
A field placement at the Counseling Center is highly clinical. A candidate must be a second-year student who has a wealth of life experience, maturity, and familiarity with comprehensive clinical work. The internship provides autonomy and is ideal for those interested in private practice or in higher education.
Interns have the opportunity to:
- Conduct case management, intakes, and screenings
- Provide short- and long-term psychotherapy to at-will and mandated clients
- Complete referrals, facilitate groups, and conduct outreach
Field Training Application Process and Timeline
Second-year internship candidates are invited to apply and complete a rigorous interview process to verify they are qualified for mental health psychotherapy in a college setting. Field Work Placement at the University of Mount Saint Vincent begins the third week of August and ends in mid May. Generally the timeline of this internship does NOT coincide with graduate school calendars, meaning interns will be asked to start prior to their own school year and end in close proximity to their own graduation.
